Clean Stream Teams

Hoping to raise awareness and appreciation of Lewisville Lake, its shorelines, local streams, creeks, and waterways, Keep Lewisville Beautiful and the City of Lewisville have come up with a new program called "Clean Stream Team" in which residents have the chance to adopt and take care of a waterway. Similar to past "Trinity Trash Bashes" this program focuses on cleaning Lewisville's waterways across the city. However instead of cleaning once a year, we are hoping to have monthly or bi-monthly clean ups focusing on the importance of clean waterways.

Perhaps you have an unsightly creek behind your house or in your favorite park that you want to do something about- This is the perfect program for you!

Similar to the Adopt-A-Spot program, Clean Stream Teams can be formed by families, organizations, scouts, businesses, or individuals who share our passion in maintaining our environment. If you are interested in adopting a stream and forming a team, or would like more information about this program, please call 972-436-5100 or send an e-mail to info@keeplewisvillebeautiful.org.

Make a difference today and give us a call! To fill out a Clean Stream Team form and get started today, please visit our online request form page.

** Golden Fish Scavenger Hunt!**

Are you good at solving puzzles? Do you like to help out the environment? Then join us in our 2009 Golden Fish Scavenger hunt where you can do both and have twice the fun!

Hoping to raise awareness and appreciation of the Trinity River, Lewisville Lake, and their respective shorelines, Keep Lewisville Beautiful (KLB) is participating in the 2009 Trinity Trash Bash (TTB).

The Trinity River plays an enormous role in supplying water to many in Texas. It is 715 miles long and the collection basin covers 17 counties and 17,965 square miles of the great state of Texas. The Trinity River Basin is the primary water source for 6 million people in the upper basin and 5 million in the upper gulf coast region. It also provides water to over half of the states population.

With the importance of the Trinity River and its Basin in mind, KLB as part of a regional effort with 19 other organizations and T.R.E.E.S. organization, is hosting a TTB cleaning time frame and a scavenger hunt for the Golden Fish.

The Golden Fish is a $100.00 prize that will be given to the lucky winner of our scavenger hunt.

The TTB is being held from September 5th to October 24th.  KLB will be accepting and coordinating volunteers for the water way clean up during this time. All individuals and groups are welcome to join in the effort. Groups will be assigned locations and supplies to clean as they schedule their clean up times with KLB.

For individuals, teams, and groups who want to go the extra mile, you can sign up to hunt for the Golden Fish. Trinity Trash Bash grocery tote bags, coloring books, and bracelets, thanks to the Clean Rivers Program with the Trinity River Authority, are also available to those who sign up for the scavenger hunt. The Golden Fish prize will be hidden in the city of Lewisville. It’s up to you to find the Golden Fish and help keep our waterways clean and healthy!

Ready for some fun? Here's how to find that Golden Fish!

  1. The first step is to sign yourself or your group up to serve as a Clean Stream Team. This is when you will get your first clue. Those already on a Clean Stream Team may call the KLB office for their 1st clue. They then can skip to step #2. Information can be found on the KLB website regarding Clean Stream Teams.
  2. The second clue will be given out when you complete your first clean up as a Clean Stream Team, report your numbers back to KLB, and send KLB a group photo of the clean up with your collected trash..
  3. The third clue will be given out when you or someone in your Clean Stream Teams writes a 200 word or more quote about the waterway clean up that your team completed.
  4. Once a team has completed tasks 1-3, the team can then call KLB every Monday to obtain the next clue.
  5. Clues will be given out until the golden fish has been found.
  6. If no team or individual finds the golden fish by October 24th, the prize will go to the Clean Stream Team who picks up the most trash bags during the TTB time period (September 5-Ocotober 24).

Rules:

  1. All scavenger hunt participants must be volunteering during the TTB dates listed on the website. Those dates are September 5th through October 24th.
  2. Employees, board members, or relatives of any employee or board member will not be eligible to win the prize. They are allowed to participate in the clean up, but are not eligible for the Golden Fish prize.
  3. Clues to the location of the Golden Fish will be given out to individuals and groups that complete the tasks assigned for each clue.

Good Luck Volunteers!
